Keystone Sights!
Keystone Ski Resort provides skiable terrain for the different ski abilities of everyone in the family. If you like to ski powder, give the treed ski runs on the Outback Mountain a try. North Peak caters to the more advanced skier who like steep moguls and bumps. The defined slow-ski areas and the sweeping runs of Dercum Mountain are family friendly. Dercum Mountain was once refered to as Keystone Mountain. From the top of Dercum Peak, Keystone provides a stunning view of Lake Dillon and Breckenridge. Arapahoe Basin, ten minutes up the road, is sometimes considered Keystone’s fourth peak. Arapahoe Basin is known for it’s steep, expert ski terrain. Many people flock to Keystone because of the long eleven-hour ski day. Keystone has night skiing! It is the only ski resort in Colorado that provides skiing at night. The A51 Terrain Park is one of the largest in the United States. It is included as part of Keystone’s night ski experience. Half of the ski runs are rated as expert. Thirty percent of the trails are rated as blue while twenty percent are for beginners. The elevation at the base is over 9,200 feet. Elevation at the top of the mountain is 12, 408 feet. This gives Keystone a vertical drop of 3,100 feet! There are twenty ski lifts which include five high-speed quads and two gondola lifts. Keystone usually enjoys an October to April ski season. While the resort was built by the Ralston Purina Company in the 1970’s, the owner of Keystone today is Vail Resorts. Keystone Adventure Tours offer snowcat skiing to back country powder—if conditions permit. You can now snowcat ski on over 800 acres. The Independence Bowl is now part of the snowcat ski experience. Winter activities include cross-country skiing at the Keystone Nordic Center, tubing, snowbiking, snowboarding, snowmobile tours, sleigh rides, or ice skating on the five-acre outdoor ice rink in Keystone Village. During summer months at Keystone, you can hike, mountain bike, take a horseback ride, fish, or attend one of many themed festivals. The Keystone Science School offers group school programs for kids through high school grades. It also offers summer programs for kids.
